Third Prayer - For Guidance and Wisdom
"Dear Lord,
As I face important decisions in life, I come to you
for wisdom and guidance. Thank you that your Word promises that if we come to
you lacking wisdom and ask You for wisdom, You have promised to be faithful to
answer our prayer. I ask you for wisdom as I consider . . . (share you need
wisdom and guidance with God in prayer). Help me to see things clearly from
Your Word, to seek the advice of Godly Christians and avoid the counsel of those
who are evil. Give me the peace of your Holy Spirit that will confirm Your
will for my life. Amen."
Perhaps
one of the most important questions ever asked is this: What is God’s will for
my life? I’ve heard it asked a hundred times in a hundred different ways.
Should I take the job offer and move? Is it God’s will for me to marry? What
major should I pursue in school? How can I be a better parent? What church
should I join? These, and a myriad of other practical questions, require us to
look to God for guidance. The answers to some of these questions may not be
printed directly on the pages of the Bible. Instead, it requires each
individual Christian to seek God for His personal leading and direction on
important life matters. The ability to make Godly decisions is critically
important to every Christian who wants to live a fruitful, joyful life. The
ability to make Godly decisions requires several things:
1) looking
carefully at the commands and principles of the Bible with a heart to obey (much
of God’s will is already revealed for your life in the Scriptures!)
2) seeking
the counsel (advice) of mature Christians who know and love you
3) having
an inner sense of peace from God’s Spirit as a result of prayer
4) considering the circumstances of your life and
how God wants you to be a good steward (manager) with your present opportunities
It is
important to realize that God wants to have a personal relationship with
you where He is able to
lead you through the promptings and peace that come with His Holy
Spirit. God’s Word states plainly in James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he (or she)
should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will
be given to him.” We are encouraged to ask God for
wisdom, trusting that He will be faithful to give us wisdom when we do ask. Asking God
for wisdom is an opportunity to rely on Him completely. He can guide you
perfectly for He knows all your needs, and He has infinite wisdom, power,
resources, and creativity to lead you in the fullest life possible. He deserves
your trust.
A good
verse to memorize is Proverbs 3:5-6:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your
own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your
paths straight (or will direct your paths). |
